Our Corporate Governance Expert Group contributed to our response to ACCA's consultation Creating value through Governance – towards a new accountability. We welcomed ACCA's initiative to conduct a study to help promote good corporate governance and shared the view that governance should enhance companies, rather than inhibit them. In line with the Quoted Companies Alliance Corporate Governance Code for Small and Mid-size Quoted Companies, we stated that the clear focus of corporate governance should be creating and preserving value for shareholders. We noted that far too often corporate governance debates, codes and reports focus on structures and processes, omitting two important factors: having clarity of objectives and the people in place with the right skills and experience to deliver those objectives.
